Learn About Muhurat

What is Muhurat?

In Vedic astrology, Muhurat (also spelled Muhurta) refers to an auspicious time period chosen for initiating important activities. The concept is based on the belief that the positions of celestial bodies influence the outcome of actions taken during specific time windows.

Choghadiya

Choghadiya divides the day and night into 8 equal periods each, ruled by different planets. Amrit (Moon) is the most auspicious, followed by Shubh (Jupiter) and Labh (Mercury). Char (Venus) is suitable for travel. Avoid important work during Udveg (Sun), Kaal (Saturn), and Rog (Mars) periods.

Rahu Kaal

Rahu Kaal is an inauspicious period ruled by the shadow planet Rahu, lasting approximately 1.5 hours each day. Starting new ventures or important tasks during Rahu Kaal is traditionally avoided.

Abhijit Muhurat

Abhijit Muhurat is the most powerful auspicious window of the day, occurring around local solar noon. It can override other inauspicious combinations and is ideal for starting any important activity.

Brahma Muhurat

Brahma Muhurat occurs approximately 1 hour 36 minutes before sunrise. It is the most sattvic (pure) time of day, ideal for meditation, prayer, and spiritual practices.
